Hello folks,

In my search for an exhaust setup for my bike I found a fellow board member who suggested I check this site out and sign up - so I thought for my first post I'd simply say hello and throw up a few pics of my bike.

I picked up my bike a few years ago now for $150. I previously owned a CB450 which I had to sell to pay for damages sustained to a car I rear-ended... (while on the bike... no damage to the bike, only the car, and me...) After selling the bike I wanted to find something I could fix up and drive the next summer - and I lucked out and found this:

The previous owner had just returned from a few years over-seas and brought a new bike home with him. He simply wanted to see the bike go to a good home.

I added saddle bags, a rear rack, and a couple of driving lights to it within the first year. My girlfriend and I very much enjoy cruising around on it. I've driven newer crotch-rockets and other sport bikes, but I enjoy driving on the bike older than I am much more Smile

I had to replace one tire, have the fork seals replaced, last summer I had the carbs rebuilt/sync'd and I also had to replace my sprockets...

A couple of years ago the bike developed a bit of a knock in the bottom end - I've had a few people look at it and it was thought to be a primary chain which was making the noise... I didn't have the time/money to deal with it then thus haven't actually had it on the road the past couple of summers. In talking with "still_bluenoser" last night he figures the noise may actually be my clutch? I'll have a look when I have it apart here shortly.

I also found out the hard way that you really shouldn't run synthetic oil in these bikes as the clutch does not like it - as a result my clutch slips pretty badly now... "still_bluenoser" suggested I take it apart and simply clean it up/scrape off the crud then re-surface the clutch discs with emery cloth. (Thanks again for that suggestion - I will definitely try it).

Something I forgot to mention to him last night - and will here now, is that when I changed the oil I found this:

Now - I was previously told this may be clutch material, I am hoping someone here will agree.

It has also been suggested that I adjust my valves - seeing as I haven't in the entire time I've had the bike. Light was also shed as to why I was loosing oil out the timing chain adjustment hole (a simple seal - which I should replace when I do my valves)

I had intended to tear the engine completely down this spring and try to get it back together by summer, however I had a bit of a fire last night with my car and that is going to set me back some...

How is that for a bizarre introduction?

I am from just north of Stewiacke, I'm in and around Truro and work in Halifax. I HOPE to get the bike on the road to commute with some this year (though its a bit early yet Laughing Not saying I haven't thought about it.... especially recently....)

I have a 2nd engine I picked up last year which is partly complete... I will try rebuilding the clutch and adjusting the valves and see what that does first... Whatever I do is going to have to be cheap if this is going to see the road this year at all Mad
