Hi all!
I am 90% picking up a non-op 1979 CB750K next week and found this community in my research. I'll be tearing the bike down to its nuts and bolts to get a deeper understanding of the mechanics of a motorcycle. I've had my M1 for only about a year and have done two track days (Thunderhill West and Sonoma) with my Trident 660. This project isn't to make money, but just to learn and have fun wrenching. Firstly, I'll just get it back running as near stock as I can get. Then maybe I'll think about customization to cafe racer-ish styling. (It'll give me a reason to learn to weld lol). Just downloaded the manuals to read through and make my list of things I can do and things I need to outsource, but was wondering what tips that any of you may have as I start planning for this project. Would love to hear your expierences!

Best,
Migs

Picked up the bike a few months back and am deep in the disassembly. I'll post pictures during assembly. For now, engine is completed disassembled, except for valves on the topend. I am focusing on the bottomend first, but am getting stuck on reusing or replacing the connecting rod bolts. I want to replace them from what I am reading online and other advice from mechanics, however, I cannot find a source. Are these bolts from DOHC torque to yield like the SOHC? Where do you guys source your replacements? If you've reused, were they any issues?

There are no torque to yield bolts on these bikes. The rod bolts are reusable too. Don't think SOHCs have any either.

TTY didn't become a thing until way after these were made, and they're primarily used when fastening/clamping dissimilar materials.

The rod bolts on the 750/900 bikes are prone to fail under abuse. Replace them with 1100/1000c type rod bolts available here, #6 in the parts list. These bolts were actually used on some cars also.
