G'day all,
Well, tonight I picked up my first ever Honda, and to be honest I don't have a clue about it. Reason being I bought it off an old workmate on a whim, because I wanted something to tinker with in the shed.
I've got a couple of other bikes, and most of my life have been Into old cars. "Apparently", my new aquisition is a 1984 cb750...... But that's the main reason I jumped straight in to join your forum. I don't reckon it is an 84.
The frame number is RC01-1000770
Engine is RC04-2219544
I'm really struggling finding info on the net, but I reckon it's 80 or 81.
So......at the risk of sounding rude, can anyone at least give me an opinion ?
In the meantime I'll try and upload a pic.

Hope you don't mind the question up front, but it's hard buying parts when you're not sure what you have.

Peter

Thanks mate.
I'll get some pics in the morning....midnight here. Funny thing is there's this ratty looking, half destroyed compliance plate pop riveted to the frame near the steering neck, and it's got a date 12 / 84

Hasn't been registered in a few years, but those numbers I provided are very clear. As I said, sorry for jumping in and hitting you straight up with a question, but I'm really flying blind and want work out exactly what I have.
Many thanks.
Peter.

No worries .

The compliance plate may have simply been the first time registered there . Not necessarily the build date of that particular model .

Year models and the way a stock bike was outfitted in different markets made for totally different looking bikes. The Australian bikes came with different stuff than North American bikes.

If that was a US bike, the boat tail would make it a 1979 CB750K. But those original (non reverse) Comstar wheels with dual disks never came on a US 1979 CB750K which had spokes and a single disk. They did come on the 1979 CB750F and maybe on the CB750KL thought, but the KL (Limited 10th Anniversary edition) didn't have the boat tail.

Also serial numbers don't track well across different markets. The rules for North America numbers don't work for Euro, South American, Aussie or Japanese marketed units on the early bikes.

I usually suggest you use a multi market Honda dealer with info about bikes from many markets like www.cmsnl.com to figure out things like this.

Thanks for replying.
I checked out that link, but it didn't really help. The stamped number on my bike would indicate probably 80-82. But the compliance plate has thrown me. I also just took some pics of the part numbers on the side covers.....they are 1979 on one side, and 1979/80 on the other - assuming they are original, which they seem to be. This morning is the first time I really took time to have a decent look over.
I should probably post elsewhere for this but was hoping someone would have an answer straight up. I don't really care what year it is, but want to know so I can start looking for the right bits and learning about the model itself.

I'm just in the process of uploading more pics now. Will gladly add my bike in my signature, when I figure out what it actually is.

Regards,

Peter

It has the single puck calipers, so at least according to NA market standards that would make it 1981 or earlier.

There's also the possibility that the bike doesn't have all of its original pieces on it. It could have even had an entire frame transplant at some point, hard to tell.

The metal boiler plate is something required by compliance rules for the market it was first sold in. The information on it is according to your country's rules.

The "boiler plate" is pretty scarred too. The more I research the more it seems about an 80 model. I just messaged the guy I got it off, and he said it's possible it was imported....he owned it for 20 years. About to add a link with new uploaded pics. The headlight looks wrong to me as well....indicators don't look like they're mean to be mounted on the light and it actually looks too big.

They're meant to be mounted on the bottom triple tree clamp, about inline with the brake splitter. In your pics, you can see the mounting screw holes on the triple clamp. You're missing the brackets that actually hold them on though.

Thanks mate. I took the light off last night and the bloody headlight bucket is branded "Yamaha". Probably had a bingle and replaced with something that kind of fit. It looked too big for the opening, so now I'm trying to see how big the correct one is and where they are.

I actually think those brackets are in a bag of bits.
