Usually the F site has 3 to 4 times, if not more, members online as we do. The database there is probably way over 100 times the size of ours, more likely way over 1000 times. The general performance has been better on Yahoo for the F site compared to GoDaddy, the previous hosting site.
I still think there's a fundamental flaw in the basic setup of the forum software, or it's just too big and busy to do all the complex searches we encourage there, on a generic box like these cheap server companies offer.
The search functions really do eat lots of resources on a server. Real (expensive) sites put their own custom high speed (clustered) hardware into the reduntant web environment of a professional hosting site, but it's really a commercial endeavor, with accordingly commercial pricing...
Check out the archives at http://www.anandtech.com/ for some insite into how to manage a really busy website. It takes their site several specially built computers designed specifically for the tasks, and a real hosting site that provides racks with redundant high speed feeds.
It's real expensive to host 1000's of hits a day in the twinkling of an eye like the F site traffic demands. Tens of thousands of dollars in equipment and several hundred a month.
I think VJMOG must have a benefactor. |

So will VJMOG be the meeting place if things go to shit like last time?
Sort of like when you were kids at the carnival and your mother would say "now if you get lost, go over by the ferris wheel and we will find you there" |

OK, here's the latest:
We're moving to the new server this Sunday, March 30. At about noon eastern time, I'll be locking the forum so you have something to say, get up early. Hopefully all will go well and we'll be unlocked and running by the evening. Many greatful thanks to Glenn since he's doing all the actual work.
IMPORTANT
If there should be any problems or need to communicate during this time, instead of burdening vjmog, go to:
http://forumforfree.com/cb900c.html
EDIT: Use this account to post over there:
username: Guest
password: password
That's right, the old dot com forums still exist, though in somewhat skeletal form. I've created a section called "What's happening with CB900C.NET?" at the top. You do NOT have to join to post and or read anything in that section. Most posts will simply be from 'Guest' so please identify yourself if you want a direct answer. I don't mind at all if we co-mingle technical questions with forum questions and just general nonsense in there. Let's just all go to the same place if needed and sort it out from there.
Finally, if all else fails and you're found shaking on the street jonesing for a forum fix, have your medical professional, significant other, physical therapist, horticulturalist, interior decorator, Native American dream guide and/or Secret Santa contact me at: admin@cb750c.com. |

OK, the provider has prohibited Guest posting all all their servers. So, I just created an account that all can use.
Username: Guest
Password: Password
I don't want everyone to have to register for what might be a few hours of use. I you do use the Guest account, please include your regular username in your post so we know who you are..... |

Is anyone else not able to get into the F-site tonight? I'm thinking Glenn may have started the move? |
