Since we will not be hosting a picture server, I'd like to have a short thread here about pic hosting sites.
I use www.photobucket.com
http://support.photobucket.com/hc/en-us/articles/200724424-Linking-to-Forums
They have a free service, although I use a paid account so I can keep more pics there. They are touchy about content though. They even deleted a picture of my folded arm that looked like an ass crack |

I also have a Photobucket paid account, it is very easy and convenient to sign up. Just use paypal to pay for a years subscription and it is only like $7.95 a year.
I have more room on their server than I will ever need with like 22 videos and 250 images and no advertizements like you will have with a free account.
Dig deep and you will have access to all kinds of doo dads, zoom zooms and wham whams.

Edit by genesound - this thread and post is old and Photobucket has changed their specific website controls, so some directions for some tools are different.
Also... with Photobucket, if you click the checkbox on the image(s) you wish to post, then scroll down to the bottom of the photobucket page, click on the button marked "Generate HTML and IMG code"... This will take you to a page with several boxes and one of them will be labeled "IMG clickable thumbnails for message boards - recommended". Click in there and a fly out box will indicate "copied". You can then paste that into a message in our edit box here and it will make a clickable thumbnail image, slickern shit. |

All fixed.
You had carraige returns between each picture link, and that would cause them to be stacked vertically rather than hotizontally and there is probably a limit on the page space as well as the number of characters. I simply removed the carraige returns, and put a space at the end. Sometimes the sig parsers get confused on these forums I've found. |

In the sig, the URL and IMG tags need to be in lower case (url..img) to work. Go figure.... |

Actually it seems that just the [img] code tags need to be lower case, the [URL] code tags can be upper case.
Go figgr... |

Thanks Gene. I didn't test but figured a quicker rule of thumb to remember would be 'all in lower case'. |

Pictures in the signature should not be more than 120 pixels high. Photobucket's thumbnails usually come out 160(w) x 120(h) which is fine. Several pics can be stacked end to end, side to side, but should not cover more than about 480 pixels in width.
Here's a post by old_dirt regarding picture posting that I thought was a good addition to this thread:
On Thu Feb 11, 2010, old_dirt wrote: | Hi,
To post pictures on this board, you need to first open an account on a photo hosting website such as Photobucket.
http://register.photobucket.com/
Once you have an account, you can upload your photos from your computer to the Photobucket account. When you get ready to upload, you can use the image processing software on your computer to size your photos to 640x480 pixels, or you can edit them using the tools provided by the hosting site. In any case, you'll want to ensure your photos are limited to 640x480 pixels.
To post a photo in a thread, or in your signature (sig file), hover your mouse pointer over the picture in Photobucket. A drop down box will appear below the photo with several lines of code. Right click, and copy, the code with the IMG tag. Then paste it in the edit box where you have been typing to post your words of wit and wisdom.
The process is essentially the same to put a photo in the sigfile, except you are editing your profile (click Profile in the links near the top of the page). Also, ensure photos intended for the sigfile are limited to 150x150 pixels (i think that's the correct size). Personally, I select the "clickable thumbnail" option on the Photobucket site and paste that code into my sigfile.
Hope this helps, or at least gets you started. |
