Just to say hi and pleased and excited that I've found this resource. Seems to be loads of stuff online for sohc users but little on dohc. I have I'm told a cb750c. I'd like this confirming if anyone can help. Frame RC04...engine RC01e. Got it torn down getting ready for rebuild so will need to order parts soon.
Thanks all ✌️ |

Hi Mark,
I just acquired a 1980 CB750 Custom as well... also with similar frame/engine numbers to you.
I joined the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club here in the UK. They offer a dating service where they will provide a formal letter confirming the bike and date built based on photos frame numbers etc. This will let you get it registered (once MOT'ed) with the DVLA... although depending on the age of yours and when you get it finished, you may soon qualify for the rolling 40 year old bike exemption.
But for reference, its not been easy to correlate the engines and frame for my bike at all... if you PM me, i'll send you a booklet I found which may help with dating, but would defo suggest you get in touch with Ray Davis at the VJMC... he's pretty quick.
So my frame starts RC04-1xxxx - is yours the same? The challenge with this, is I couldnt find any CB750 of any variant that starts with a 1 after the RC04 part... the nearest I could find was a 1980 CB750F... which is a RC04-21xxxx
On the engine front, mine s also RC01E-3xxxx which would indicate a 1979 CB750L variant...
So... what I think has happened is they built many of these early custom bikes (mines a Custom Exclusive) in 1979 for release in 1980... and they used a stock F frame and an L engine...
But either way, the bike appears genuine and all the parts are there in the right places...
If you can share the first numbers after the RC0x bit - would be useful.
Cheers,
Jamie |

Just an update to this. I spotted a guy on eBay selling an identical bike. I asked about the numbers on his machine and they start exactly the same as mine... so seems this is the norm/correct. |
