Greetings from Canada's Capital

Good afternoon all,
My name is Dean , and I'm a Honda CB Custom Addict.
I started riding just last year. My first bike was an '80 CB650 Custom. Love it, I then bought an '82 CB750 Custom over the winter. My plan was for the CB750C to get the MTO safety this week and be riding it by Saturday... That didn't happen. Bike needs too much work to just give them a blank cheque.
So for now it comes home, I order some parts, and do the work myself. (It was the labour costs that were gonig to be too much)

Hopefully I will be able to report it's on the road soon.
In the meantime I will be riding the CB650C and searching the forums for tips on repairing the CB750C..

It is best to do the work yourself, imho. It keeps costs down and it is not terribly hard and you know the job gets done the way you want. Just don't go at it too fast and take you time and do it right and enjoy the bike Smile

And Duke you are correct, it is always cheaper to do the work yourself.
I have no issues with doing, actually rather enjoy it. (if I didn't I guess I should not have bought a vintage bike .. LOL)

To actually pass the safety I need to replace the chain, and rebuild the master cylinder, replace the front brake light switch, and get a new front tire. All stuff I can deal with on my own. (well not mounting the tire, but I have a trusted connection for that)

I thinking my biggest challenge will be the carbs and the exhaust.
right now there is too much fuel going through the engine. so much so it can't burn it all and it pours out the headers at the muffler joint.

I'm not convinced it's just a balancing issue. I think I may need to pull them apart to check and maybe replace a stuck float or four. Razz

(I'm also not sure if I need to rejet because of the new exhaust or not... still searching for info on that)

As for the exhaust I had to replace the original with an after market because the mufflers were all rusted through. I went with a MAC 4 into 2. I've quadruple checked part numbers and have the right one for my bike, but can not get them to mount properly to allow either kick stand to lift properly.

But that all said, I don't believe any of this is beyond my capabilities. Just need time, patience and a little guidance.

Ah good to know, so it can be done.. with my luck I probably did something stupid like try to put them on the wrong side.

I have to say what drew me to the CB Fours in the first place was the sound. I ride with a group who have a bunch of GL and CX's and the sound my CB650 makes is music among them. So I'm hoping I don't loose to much of that on the CB750 with the 4 into 2's

The MAC only fits one way but the first time installing it can be a head scratcher but you will get it. If I recall, the instructions were shite.

Cool

The second picture have Ram-Flow slip ons and OEM headers.

It is just one thing at a time, IMO. You will get the bike sorted in no time.

I like the look of both Pictures.

Yup one thing at a time and my CB750C should be on the road in no time.

You don't need to rejet because of the headers and exhaust. Pull the float bowls and remove all the needles and check them for length . Powersports can get you Honda needles if you need them . Clean off the seats and needles if they are the correct ones and see if that takes care of the over feeling. If you can carefully remove the jets make sure your running #68 main jets and #102 secondary main jets. The secondary ones are near the center. It will run rich in the midrange if they are backwards

I've actually just ordered some parts from Powersports. Namely the front brake switch, Master cylinder rebuild kit, chain and battery.

I'll pull the carbs and check the floats and needle valves after I've fixed what's needed for the safety. I can look at those while I wait for my front wheel to be mounted and balanced.
