Am I the only one who keeps having their replies go to site not available? It's been going on for about three days now. I post, submit, site not available, back to index or other topic, reload, select |

When that happens, I usually find that if I just go back two times to the page where I originally hit the reply button, then hit the refresh button on the browser, that the post is usually there on the thread, it just never came back up afterwards.
When the server response gets crappy, it's the back and forth transactions like hitting the submit button to a "Post a reply" page or "Edit post" page that start messing up first. |

I was having trouble with all web pages for a while last night. I think my ISP was screwing around with the system. |

Just didn't like me this morning I guess. Ate two of my posts even though I know all the tricks to get them to stay. Was getting an error message after all of them or wouldn't let me change topics. I just gave up and did other important Frank stuff |

The server is often slow to me and it seems slow from my work today. And I have a blazing fast connection.
The first "code" block is a traceroute and it looks like a few of the cox routers in South Dakota is taking its sweet time... but nothing unusual.
Code:traceroute to www.cb750.com (216.104.161.203), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets

Below is a sample of time and wget...(web get) It took 19 seconds to pull down the page, Thats not as slow as I have seen it... but its not exactly fast.
Code:
time wget -v www.cb750c.com

Resolving www.cb750c.com... 216.39.62.189, 216.39.62.190, 216.39.62.191

If the admins don't mind I can perl up a check script and perhaps get you some metrics, just on hitting the main page. Does anyone have commandline access to this box? Has anyone investigated the php tuning options? It may be that php doesn't have the resources it needs to run as fast as it could. BTW if this box is windows, I'll be able to help but it will take me a bit longer, it's not what I do all day. Unlike unix/linux, which is my bread and butter.
Let me know, I'd like to help.
BTW, NukeSentinel blocked my "usual" IP 156.26.2.17 probably due to traceroute and wget (which can be used for harvesting but I was just trying to get some quick metrics) could someone realease this IP when they get a chance?
Thanks, |

Ok Its my experience that the site is slow before you browse to the Forums section. At this point there the site should be doing very little in the way of sql connections, except NukeSentinel(tm) 2.5.08 might be checking IP addresses.
This may be a place to start looking for a problem. Whoever has access may want to check for the following line in the nukesentinel.php script
Code:$checkrow = $db->sql_numrows($db->sql_query("SELECT * FROM `".$prefix."_nsnst_ip2country`"));
|
it may be possible improve performance by replacing the above line with
Code:$checkrow = $db->sql_numrows($db->sql_query("SELECT * FROM `".$prefix."_nsnst_ip2country` LIMIT 0,1"));
|
Here's a link I found on the subject, if you have already been down this road, sorry for the duplication, and if not I hope this helps.

We think it's actually the webserver, not the database server, causing the sporatic performance issue. Yahoo has been contacted for us about the issue.
The reason we think so, is that we can't access the maintenance tools either, that don't even need the database server to access the login screen. |

I'll give the checkrow edit a try. Thanks! Reminds me I need to update the ip2country list, too.
Gene, the majority of issues are accessing the SQL server. Now, it may be the poor server or our poor config but probably is a combo of both. |
