(and to be specific, I'd be one of those "have nots")
I've been lurking most of the year, so I thought it might be time to properly say hello! I picked up a low miles (approx. 10,000) 1980 CB750C this spring, and spent the summer getting her up to speed. I haven't had to post thusfar as I was able to find all the info I needed floating around the forums to do all my projects - MUCH APPRECIATED! This is pretty much my first time doing more than cleanings and oil changes. The old bike didn't bark for TLC until I brought this one home
SO FAR:
replaced total charging system (ouch)
replaced most of the molex plugs
completely cleaned/repinned/dielectric greased connections
replaced spark plugs/custom wires/fuses
checked/cleaned both brakes and caliper
rebuilt brake fluid reservoir
changed fluids/filters
fuel filter and new lines
changed fork dust and oil seals
plugged a few carb boot cracks
adjusted the mix on the carbs, but mostly I just stare at them threateningly...
Of course, there's a few hundred small things I've blocked out, but I've tried to get it safe and healthy overall. The winter has more projects I'm sure, the cylinder head gasket seems to want to spit oil enough now to leave a good schmear on my left ankle every ride now, and the valves need checkin'.... |

Well, welcome to the site.
Glad you know how to navigate through all the BS we come up with. Like sitting around the table running our mouths!
Are the carbs giving you problems?
Most of the work on these bikes look intimidating at first, but once you get into it with some help from your friends and the FSM, it is not really bad at all. |

I take it you know how to get around on this site and how to use it. Also to mention that you have already repaired a lot of the "Common Problems" that these old bikes are known for.
Good luck with the rest of your plans and repairs. And welcome to here. |

thanks for the warm welcome - and the carbs just need a god thorough cleaning I think. At a few points earlier this summer I thought I had a plugged or gummed idle circuit, but a few bottles of sea-foam later it might be okay. I just want an excuse to try out that pine-sol cleaning
Plus, of the very few things touched by the PO in any depth - the carbs look like they were taken apart... as about every screw head at a glance is ripped, stripped or otherwise mangled. It makes me nervous........
As a side note, I tend to disappear quickly, and for days at a time due to funky internet connection. Qwest sucks. S'all good. |

Hiya, check valves first and reshim as necessary. Sounds hard but with FSM and many many links around here it's pretty easy and important. Grew up in Colo and managed to get as far as Aspen every couple of years. Beautiful country and pretty nice skiing. I never rode my motos that far but did ride my Yamaha 125 up and over Loveland Pass once! That was a long trip.
