Excuse me guys, but sig pics are supposed to be thumbnail sized (around 160x120). You can make a thumbnail pic hotlink to a larger pic, but a larger pic on every post just is too much space in a thread. Thanks. |

Understood Gene. I will correct it a little bit later. I didn't think it was that large. Not that much larger than some of the others, but I will conform. |

Thanks. We appreciate you being easy going about it.
We'll be asking everybody to do the same.
120 high, x 160 wide, you can stack 3 horizontally without going over 480 pixels wide. |

That's one of the reasons that I like to post links to pics, sure I know it's a pain in the ass to go look but after having to live with dial-up for so long I know what it's like to have to wait for a picture to load. a lot of the time it was worth skipping the pics just so I could get to where I wanted. I could always come back and look later. Some of these pictures have gotten so large that even with my high speed it takes awhile to fully load (I'm as guilty as the rest, so I'm not pointing any fingers!) I notice that there is a place for pictures, maybe instead of asking in the threads if ya got any pics it should be, can you post some pictures in the Pictures and Projects. Might help with new guy navigation (wow, a 4 syllable word) |

I can say I would actually hate not having any pictures in threads. We might as well use a list format like Yahoo forums instead of this capable phpbb software if we have to go somewhere else to see the pictures. There is only so much of catering to the least common denominator that is practical.
Small thumbnail pics and avatars don't take long to load on any kind of hookup. And when they've loaded once on a page they don't have to load again in the case of avs and sigs. Depending on browser settings, they might even stay cached for all pages.
What I don't like about large sigs is it just really breaks up the thread. I used to spend a lot of time on a forum without any sigs. Reading a thread was a lot more reading and a lot less scrolling.
As far as large avs are concerned, they screw up the left margin, making it real wide for the whole page. That can cause lots of sideways scrolling just to read a thread, same as giant pics.
Giant pics (larger than 640 pics wide) in a thread cause the text area to open up real wide, so all the text word wrap for the page also goes wide and requires lots of horizontal scrolling to read the thread. Even 640 x480 pics posted without a carriage return in between them, so they all display on the same horizontal line will also cause that. All 640 pics should be posted on a new line in a post.
If a picture needs to be posted that's larger than that, or you need to post lots of pics, thumbnails that refer to larger pics in a new window are preferable. This allows the thread to be browsed with proper width, and you don't need to load all the big pictures if you don't want to, just to see subsequent posts in the thread. Nothing worse than to have to wait for a bunch of big pictures to load just to see a reply that's all of one smilie. |

I'm by no means saying that all the pics need to go one place, hell some of the pics that are posted are just too funny and I can read pictures. Guess my line of thought was more along the lines of your last statement where my screen keeps jumping back to the picture that's loading when all I want to do is see the smiley. |
