Hello all, member of the "other" website, must say it's been interesting.

My overall interest on this site or the other one is to learn more about the 1980 CB750F Super Sport I aquired. It needs some TLC and then I can get it on the road.

I need rebuild kits for the F/R Master Cylinders, leaks oil at the gear shifter shaft (I think) and a right side front blinker and a good cleaning. Starts and runs good. Probably a good cleaning is needed for the carbs.

Anyways, here to learn. Looks like a nice site.

Cleaning the carbs and paying close attention to the idle jets and installing a new paper filter in the stock air box is a good idea. Adjusting the valves to .005" all the way around is another good idea.
ebay will have all the other stuff you are looking for.

Thanks for the quick reply, read a lot about you on the other site. Just read your constant rebuild on your red bike. Your pretty fast and handy. Hopefully I can get mine done quickly. Waiting until after Christmas to get parts.

I found Parts N More, are they garbage parts, they have the F/R master cylinder and Caliper kits as well as other stuff I need.

I also saw a "seal" kit, is this easy to install. I think oil is coming from the shaft for the shifter, haven't cleaned it and looked to see where it's coming from yet.

Paid 200 bucks for it, doesn't smoke, runs a little choppy, probably bad gas and going to get some new gas.

Anyways....

Make sure to adjust those valves.

I don't use Parts n More but their parts are the same as any others. I use my Honda dealer to buy my stuff like you are doing.
The shift shaft seal pops out with a flat head screwdriver and pops in just as easy but I use a seal driver for that seal because I have one.
Here, this is the shifter seal; OIL SEAL (12.5X25X8) 91204-425-003

Great thanks for the information. I downloaded and printed the manual off of the f site and looking it over. I'm pretty handy with my cars and trucks so this shouldn't be too difficult.

I'll be lurking for sure and ask when I need to.

Welcome!

Try running a can of Seafoam with the new gas (1/2 can per tank) and see if that helps your carbs. Often cleans/cures the minor issues. Sure did for me!

Welcome.. It`s a great place.
My uncle lives in yreka, If thats no. cal on the border. Had an airstrip on his property. Not shure if he`s still there its been ahwile since we talked, But they did have a cruise night in town.
anyhowe hope you get your bike ready for spring.

Yep, near the Oregon Border. A lot of Hog riders up here, mostly cops. I work in the Jail.

These are photobucket but here is the bike.

I used a small bit of Meguiars Mag/Aluminum Polish on the motor. Needs some cleaning but hey, 200 bucks, runs and I can probably fix whats wrong with it easily and with help with my new friends.

Front view, broken signal on the left, partsnmore has them for 10 bucks for black or chrome, may get the chrome.

Side View, the typical broken tab on the right side cover. I was surprised it started so good. Took a minute, the starter only clicked and clicked until I hit it enough to get it to engage. I assume like a car, solenoid to punch out the starter eh? Doesn't look to bad, front MS leaked and pretty much ate the paint on the front fender.

It's a good looking bike, heavy too and I think plenty fast as a buddy at work owned it then sold to a Court Reporter I've known for a while when I was a Bailiff in the courts and he sold it to me as he didn't want to mess with it and admitted he wasn't that good with mechanic stuff, I think his wife wanted it out of the garage!!!!! LOL.

That I know, but the mechanical aspect of being able to tear something apart and put it back together with the only frustration if it don't work is launching a ratchet over the house Laughing

I already tore off the F/R Master Cylinders and have them repainted and waiting to buy parts to rebuild them. I thought of Partsnmore but may steer towards Honda so I don't have to do it again. Then, work on the carbs and check the valves and replace that shifter seal.

Then....I'll work on the cosmetics.

Can't wait. I fire it up to hear it. Sounds good and motivates me.

Now I have to balance parts for two rides.....my '64 Chevy C-10 needs the newly aquired heads to be put on the engine. Rolling Eyes

Hi Aaron, welcome aboard.

No, the starter doesn't have a bendix, it uses a clutch and it's inside the left motor cover behind the ignition pulsers.

The starter not spinning could be one or more of several things; solenoid, neutral switch, or just dirty connections. If the starter won't run, try pulling in the clutch lever next time. There is another switch in there, and if your neutral switch is dirty, pulling in the clutch will add conductance to the solenoid field coil.

Welcome Aaron,

Looks like you have a good foundattion to work from. Think about the other safety aspects as well.

Bearings (steering head, swingarm and wheel)
Chain
Sprockets
Shocks (front and rear)

Some folks swear by a product called Seafoam and my suggestion is that once you get the bike running the way you want and the carbs cleaned, run the recommended amount through a couple of tanks right from the git-go.

I'd replace the plugs, oil, oil filter and air filter right off too.

We do have almost all of the real hotrod DOHC Hondas in So Cal. But, we cannot forget our friend Lee and his 83 red CB1123 Super F that is modified almost as nicely as mine.
