So I was Rolling Eyes lurking on this site for a while and wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU for all the information. I was on SOHC's website for awhile and then I found a thread there linking me here! I have learned so much from this site and it is always a good reference. I was by no means a bike mechanic a year ago, but at this point I have no problems tearing into my own stuff!

So here is my story and how I came about my bikes. So the deal was I wanted a bike that I could ride and cleanup at the same time so I found the 79 cb750 Anniversay Full Dress in the corner of the PO's garage, up state from where I live, and it was not running. So after haggling for a day I had already made the 4-hour trip one way with my truck I paid him cash and we pushed it into the back of my truck and I was off.

I got it home and for the next three, four months I started reading the manual and troubleshooting the issues. First, the spark plug wires were not seated to the coils, got it running and found that it needs a complete carb rebuild and I did not like the sound of the exhaust. So, I sent the carbs out to be done and I was now on the hunt for the dubious honda cb stock exhaust.

So a couple more months go by and I started doing my research and found what was a match for stock exhaust not far from my home. A guy was parting\selling a 1981 CB750 Custom that had been downed, he tried to take apart and fix, parts moved from garage to shed and now he has lost interest. So, I went to buy a stock exhaust from this guy parting a the bike on CL.

He told me the exhaust was going to cost me $250, but if I was interested in the whole bike, I could purchase it for $50 more and he would inlclude the all the parts he had laying around. Needless to say, I bought the whole bike and he signed the title over and helped me load it into the back of my truck. After three days of looking at the Custom I made the decision to try and get it started. Found the carbs to be a problem and needed to get them completely redone, gas tank rusted pretty good, so I borrowed the tank off my 79 for now and I have been successful in riding the Custom for a couple of short trips around the neighborhood.

Lastly, to make a long story short, I need to change out the chain and sprokets, clean out the tank, inspect the brakes, look at new tires, recover seat, and finish cleaning up the Custom and she is a go! And all this while I ride my 1997 ST1100 to work, but that is another story for another time. I will post pictures as soon as the bikes are together and I pull the ST out from under its cover.

Again, thanks for a great site and hope I can share my learned knowledge with others as I go.[/img]

I will dig deeper into the linings of my pockets and see if there is a little change within the lint, then I can buy some more time right Question
