I bet if you did the shifter mod, that problem would go away.

I was wondering if that was what the issue is. My 900 hasn't shown problems in this area so I don't know how it feels, but just from listening.

What is the mile on the bike?

It has aprox 17k miles on it.

the current owner has had it for 2 years and put 4k miles on it.

That is not too many miles, on the 2nd gear, be sure the hi/lo shifter is in one position or the other, hi or low.

I dont think the miles were that bad either...
I moved the shift lever to both high and low. It is more noticeable in low...but does it in both.

I am trying to find some info on that shifter mod...but have not yet.

This is the 'shifter mod' referred to further back. I don't think anyone could say for sure that this would fix the 2nd gear issue but it's possible and at least you can see what you'd be in for:
