Hi All. Here's my obligatory introduction. I might as well make it a pictro.
I rode several old bikes when I was in high school and college. A rebel and CB550 among them. But I got rid of them when I went off to the USMC and figured I shouldn't when I married and started having babies.
After I moved back home and found myself with a 100mi daily commute, I figured it was time. If nothing else I could spend quality time riding back and forth to work. As it turns out, 11,000 miles every year is high quality!
About 5 years ago I bought a 1980 Suzuki GS750L. I tinkered with that bike for 3 years. It was so dang cantankerous.
Meanwhile, my wife learned to ride and I bought her a bike just like the one she took the class with - 2001 Buel Blast. Say "Cheese!" dear.
After 3 years of keeping that zooki up and wearing a backpack everywhere, it was time to move up. Enter my first CB900C, 1981 type...
I Loved that bike and rode it everywhere all the time.
Once the wife had a couple sesons under her belt, we upgraded her to her 'forever' bike, a 2009 Suzuki C50 (VL800).
It was only a matter of time though. July of last year I pulled the 81 CB into my shop for a valve check. She never ran again. *sniffles* I managed to bend a valve (though the verdict is out on what actually happened to it) during the procedure. I was just plain sick for weeks. Like someone ran over a puppy.
I couldn't take it. After waiting a season to be sure, I relized I had to have another CB Custom. It was either fix the old one (which scared me to death after that last incident), or get one with a good engine/valves and go from there. I decided on the latter. My current custom:
That's what it looked like when I got it home. I had to have the cases back though so I changed her clothes:
That's how she sits now (though I put the full windsheild back on). It'll be time for a fresh coat of paint soon. I don't htink I'll do a stock paint job... Still thinking though.
Thank you all for helping this lurker for the past couple of years. I was able to find the answer(s) to all the questions I had by searching this site. Good stuff men!
Ride safe!
Emack
PS - Note the bikes in the sig and appropriately sized pictures. Do I get a prize? |

Nice looking '82. I like the two-tone blue schemes, but then again I may be biased. |
